AAC Championship Game to be Played December 19th

The American Athletic Conference announced that their football championship game will be played on Saturday, December 19th.

The game will be played at the home stadium of the team with the highest winning percentage in the conference. It is unclear what time the game will be played but a decision will be made no later than December 7th. The game will be broadcasted on ABC or ESPN.

The two teams with the highest winning percentage will play in the championship. As of right now, #6 Cincinnati (5-0) (3-0) would host the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (3-1)(3-0). From 2015-2019, the AAC was divided into two divisions – the East and West. Before the merge, the two division champions would get the privilege of playing in the title game.

Temple last played in the AAC title game in 2016, crushing Navy 34-10. It was the second straight appearance under Matt Rhule, suffering a 24-13 loss to Houston in 2015.

For this season, the Owls, who stand at an unimpressive 1-3, (both in conference and overall) would need a lot to go their way in order to make a 3rd appearance.

In the last 5 years, the AAC championship games drew a combined total of 15.3 millions viewers on ABC. For more of a complete breakdown of how teams will qualify for the championship game, including tiebreaker rules, you can follow the link here.
