Arrest Filed in 7/11 Armed Robbery

Arrests Filed in 7/11 Armed RobberyAn arrest has been made in the armed robbery at 7/11 on Broad and Diamond Street.

The robbery occurred at 4:30am Monday, August 24, just as the Owls were headed to their first day of classes. No Temple students were involved and no one was injured. The 26-year-old Philadelphian man, identified as George Lee Smith showed a silver revolver and demanded money from the registers and cigarettes and fled west down Diamond.

Smith was seen hiding changing around 18th and Fontain St.’s by two Allied Barton bike officers, who contacted Temple Police. He was apprehended at 19th St., then taken to Central Detective Division for processing. The manager of 7/11 identified Smith as the male who robbed the convenience store that morning.

Smith is being charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Robbery
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person
