Temple Volleyball kicked off their four game road trip by handing the Uconn Huskies their first conference loss of the season Wednesday night. In the midst of the victory, Junior Irem Asci reached a milestone in kills as she notched her 1,000th career kill in the third set Friday.
Temple would get off to a hot start by taking the first two sets. They would dominate the first set as they would win by the score of 25-18. The second set would be much closer as it would take the Owls an extra point in order to defeat the Huskies 26-24.
Uconn would respond by taking the next two sets after closing out the 3rd set on an 8-2 run, winning 25-19, and edging out the owls in a nail biting fourth set 25-23.
It would once again, for the fourth time this season come down to a 5th set for Temple. It would be another nail biting finish in the final set as the set would include 7 ties, and just one lead change. It would take a combined 6 extra points before the match was decided, and Temple would finally pull of the win by the score of 19-17 in the final set.
Junior Irem Asci would have a career day, not only reaching a milestone in kills, but also having a career high in kills for a single game notching off 28 kills. This marks Asci’s 5th game with 20+ kills, and her 3rd straight.
Asci wouldn’t be the only Owl to reach their career high as Junior Kyra Coundourides would tie her career best in assist with 58, and Sophomore Mia Heirakuji would notch her career best in digs with 18.
The win comes as the Owls 9th of the season including their 2nd conference win of the year.
The Owls will continue their 4 game road trip in Memphis Sunday to take on the Memphis University Tigers at 1:00.
