This past Wednesday at the Student Center, Box of Balloons’ Philadelphia chapter held a bake sale to help with their mission of giving back to children in the Philadelphia community.
Box of Balloons is a non-profit organization on a mission to make each sure children from low-income families have birthdays that are celebrated with birthday boxes, providing “joy, hope, and a celebration for the child and their family.”
Katie Lindley, a volunteer at the Philadelphia chapter, told Temple Update about the process of how the organization works.
“So these birthday boxes, we get recommendations from doctors, teachers, and professionals in schools that notice underprivileged kids that wouldn’t have a birthday party unless they contacted us. and then we basically put a birthday party into a box and we decorate the box all nice, and they go to kids in Philadelphia and New Jersey.”
Since their inception, Box of Balloons currently has 39 chapters in 23 different states and has helped over 2,816 children so far, and for a small 1 dollar donation gets you a tasty treat, with the money going towards a child in need.
Anybody interested in volunteering is encouraged to contact Box of Ballons via their website or their Instagram.
