Fire at 16th & Oxford Street

A 3-alarm fire broke out on 16th and Oxford Street at 8:43pm Monday evening. Students and residents were evacuated in the surrounding buildings in the block. Power was later cut to the surrounding blocks including The Edge and Beech International Residence Halls. Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy says the building was vacant and under construction. The fire began on the roof. 100+ firefighters were on the scene. The Office of Emergency Management, ATF, Red Paw, Licenses and Inspection, and the Water Department were also on the scene. No injuries have been reported.

If you are a student without power, you can go to Campus Police on Cecil B. Moore and 16th St to be placed in University Housing. Be prepared to provide your TUID number and address.

UPDATE: Temple University has confirmed that power has been restored to the area surrounding 16th and Oxford following investigation by Philadelphia Fire Department and power technicians.

No injuries have since been reported following last night’s incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
