Breaking: Temple Law Grad Charged with Death of Fellow Grad

Benjamin Rauf has been charged in the death of fellow Beasley School of Law graduate Shazim Uppal, who was found shot to death in his car in a Delaware parking lot in late August.

Rauf, originally from New York, was arrested by New York State Police for first-degree murder.

Joanne Epps, Dean of the Beasley School of Law, sent Temple Update a short statement about the case: “The loss of Shazim Uppal, a 2015 law school graduate, was obviously devastating. It was made all the more sad and difficult by today’s arrest of another recent graduate of the Temple Law School.”

Uppal was found in his car with several gunshots to the upper torso, along with what police say was a ‘substantial amount of marijuana’ in his car. Police were called to the parking lot when witnesses said Uppal’s car was parked there an ‘unusually long time.’

Police believe the motive for the shooting was robbery. Raul awaits extradition in New York.
