Field Hockey Goes 1-1 Over Weekend In Virginia

Norfolk, VA- The #16th ranked Owls field hockey team (11-5) went into their match-up versus #19th ranked Old Dominion (8-6) with high hopes to defeat another ranked team. The Monarchs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 12 minutes with goals by Nicole Goff and Katy Fuhrman. The Owls did not panic though, as they got a goal from Amber Youtz to cut the lead to one.

Then, three minutes after Youtz’s goal, Alyssa Delp put one past Megan Hept to tie the game with 11 minutes left in the first half. The second half was very quiet from the scoring department as the Monarchs’ Caitlin Walsh provided the only scoring and game winning goal, with 13 minutes remaining in the game handing the Owls their fifth loss of the season.

Williamsburg, VA- The Owls fell behind early for the second consecutive game, this time against William and Mary (5-9). The Tribe took a lead in the first minute thanks to Maria Paster but could not muster another goal for the entire game. The Owls had offensive woes throughout the first 30 minutes of the game, but in the 31st minute, Amber Youtz scored a goal against Merideth Savage.

The score remained deadlocked until the beginning of the second half when Tricia Light put the ball into the net off of a deflection. Youtz put another goal into the back of the net for her second of the game and 22nd of the season, leaving her four behind the third all-time goal scores. Redshirt freshman Sarah Keer scored her first career goal to conclude the scoring for the afternoon and sealing the victory for the Owls.

They resume action on Friday, October 24th at Georgetown.
