The Temple University Office of Sustainability is doing their part to stay green by helping others to do the same. Recyclemania, Temple Sustainability’s efforts to reduce pollution, have banded students together to save plastic water bottle from ending up on the streets.
“We are going to give people who come to the gym a water bottle, if they give us their plastic water bottles. A reusable water bottle” said Recyclemania participant, Felicia Poman.
Students who choose to workout at the Independence Blue Cross (IBC,) are encouraged to bring in their disposable bottles to swap them out for a reusable bottle. Temple’s Recyclemania team will retrieve as many bottles as possible around campus before the event’s conclusion, March 29th. .
“What happens at the end of the month we take all of the recyclables that we’ve gotten throughout the university and it’s in a competition. Who ever wins, wins prizes,” said Poman.
Temple could win three prizes from four different categories. The Gorilla Prize is for most recyclables and the Grand Wizard is for the percent of recyclables in comparison to total wastes. Awards will also be given out for per capita recyclables and overall waste minimization.
