Find Your Player 2 This Valentine’s Day

Local Host Philadelphia, also known as Nerd Street, is hosting a Valentine’s Day event this Saturday, February 14th. Local Host is a gaming and esports center that is partnered with Temple University’s Esports Club that hosts intercollegiate tournaments. This lets schools in the area compete against each other in person.

This Valentine’s Day event, known as “Speed Gaming: Find Your Player 2” is going to have singles play games and get to know each other. Throughout the night, attendees will have the chance to play casual and competitive video games, board games, cards, and more.

Local Host Philadelphia’s Operations Lead Jumaani Haskins says the event is all about making connections by getting, “folks in the door, and finding your player 2- whatever that looks like.”

This is the third year in a row this event has been held, and pre-registration is open now. The event has historically sold out, with attendance being over 120 people last year.

You do not have to be a pro gamer, as Local Host welcomes both casual gamers and people who play no videos games at all. Haskins described people who don’t normally play games coming in as “one of the best outcomes they have” for these events.

The event hopes to connect people not only romantically, but platonically, as well. They have had romantic relationships formed as a result of last year’s gathering, but “it’s all about making connections”, said Haskins. “Gaming is our medium to build connections and build community.”
