Food & Farm Fest Promotes Start of Produce Season

The Philly Food and Farm Festival brought farmers from all throughout the Philadelphia area to the Convention Center.

The event featured hundreds of different vendors, who came to show off some of their finest crafts. Many came with samples, to allow event-goers to taste some farm’s samplings first hand. The event works to help promote the beginning of the spring and produce season.

It also featured a live demonstration kitchen, where visitors could view short lectures with a farm related theme. Events through out the day included how to butcher a pig, sausage making, and how to ferment vegetable. These events were to educate viewers on farm life, from the point of view of some of the farmers at the festival.

The Food and Farm Festival included a Local Libations Lounge, where local beer brewers and spirit distillers showcased some of their adult beverages.

Down at the “Curd Convention,” nearly 30 local farms came to put their cheeses out for tastings.

There were event personal cheese tastings taking place through out the day, guided by Aimee Olexy from Talula’s Garden.

“We wanted visitors to be able to try some of the cheese we offer at our store,” said Olexy. “We noticed that many people don’t really know a lot about cheese, so we set this exhibit up to show people a little more into the cheese world”.
