The Beatles once sang, “All You Need Is Love.” For Edith Windsor, love was plenty to conquer injustice.
Ms. Windsor, a Temple College of Liberal Arts alumna, was honored during the 2014 Alumni weekend for her role in the Supreme Court case officially ending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
The Leonard Mellman Endowed Fund for Visiting Scholars held a screening of a documentary chronicling the romance between Ms. Windsor and her wife, the late Dr. Thea Spyer. Angela Giampolo, a prominent Philadelphia attorney, conducted a follow-up Q&A.
College of Liberal Arts Dean Teresa Soufas, President Neil Theobald, Temple Alumni Association President John Campolongo, and Mayor Michael Nutter were all in attendance for the screening and Q&A.
Mayor Nutter officially declared April 26th “Edie Windsor Day.”
