Temple’s Department of Kinesiology and the College of Public Health hosted their first annual Give Back Day on Saturday, April 17.
This is an initiative to lend a helping hand to the members of the surrounding community.
For this Give Back Day, students and faculty volunteered at Bethel Presbyterian Church in North Philadelphia.
We spoke with Deacon Grace Marable who shared that, with Temple’s support, they are cleaning out the church in preparation of it becoming a new vaccination site.
They sorted through piles of clothes and supplies that will then be donated to local residents.
Not only is Temple doing its part to give back, Bethel has also played a huge role in helping out the members of the community for many years.
For instance, Bethel has distributed clothing, food, provided counseling for people battling addiction, educational assistance for the youth, and much more.
Next, we spoke with Evon DeBrow who has volunteered with the church for many years.
She expressed that the church’s doors have always been open to those in need, and the importance of helping those in your community.
This successful Give Back Day was the first of many more to come.
