Homecoming Tailgate Brings Owls Back to the Nest

Nothing brings people together like a great game of football.

This past weekend, Temple Owls had their homecoming game against Charlotte. The pregame tailgate was where all the fun was at. Temple fans gathered at Lincoln Financial Field to fire up some grills, toss around a few footballs, watch the marching band, and enjoy other outdoor activities to pump themselves up before the big game.

Alumni and students came out to cheer on the Owls. Shannon and Samantha Bylina, both look forward to attending the football games, especially homecoming. “This is my second homecoming. My favorite part of it is the tailgate, hang out with the students in the student section, also in the stands cheering on the cherry and white, and doing the T for Temple U with the Diamond Band,” said alumna Samantha Bylina.

“A lot of my family, a lot of my close friends actually came to Temple, and they were telling about how Temple is so much fun and about how they love being together in the city. And I love the city, that’s why I chose Temple,” said student Shannon Bylina. “My grandfather went to Temple. My sister went to Temple. My cousin went to Temple. So I feel like I had to come to Temple.”

Temple schools, divisions, and other associations took the game as an opportunity to set up tents to self-promote, including the Alumni Association. Vice President for Alumni Relations, Ken Lawrence Jr., emphasized the importance of staying connected

“Stay connected. Your relationship with Temple doesn’t stop once you graduate. It’s really only just beginning. The Temple network here with one out of seven college graduates in the greater Philadelphia area is a Temple graduate so it’s a great network.”
