After the final round of The American Athletic Conference Championship at the 7,025-yard par 72 Quarry Course at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida, Temple men’s golf placed 8th out of 9 teams.

As a team, the Owls carded a third round total of 294, which resulted in a 6-over-par score for the day. The top four scores on the team were counted for the final round of the tournament.

Senior Brandon Matthews failed to take home his ninth career win at Temple after leading in the first round. Matthews finished with a final round of 2-under-par 70 to finish his final collegiate tournament in 5th.

Sophomore Mark Farley carded a round of 76. After the final round, Farley finished in 26th.

Freshmen Gary McCabe and Trey Wren carded closing rounds of 75 and 81, respectively. McCabe finished in a tie for 36th and Wren finished in a tie for 43rd.

Redshirt freshman John Barone closed with a final round of 73, his best of the tournament. After the round, Barone finished in a tie for 40th.

South Florida won the team tournament with a three-day total of 19-under-par 845. South Florida’s Aksel Olsen won the individual tournament with a three-day total of 7-under-par 209.

The Owls will lose Matthews to graduation, which will leave a big hole at the top individual spot. Outside of Matthews, the Owls will return the rest of their young starting lineup for the 2016-17 season.
