Men’s Tennis Finishes Season on Seven Game Win Streak

Temple men’s tennis won their sixth and seventh straight matches, respectively. The weekend sweep on April 12th & 13th moved the Owls over .500 for the first time all year to finish the regular season. 

Saturday’s match against the Bucknell Bison ended in a close 4-3 finish after Temple surrendered a lead then rebounded with back-to-back wins from juniors Hernan Vasconez and Kristian Marquart to cap off the victory.

The second weekend match was won much more easily as Temple blew out Rider University 7-0 for their fourth shutout victory of the season.

After starting the season with an abysmal eight straight losses, the Owls turned around their year by finishing the season 10-2 since February 23rd.

The wins finalized the Owls’ regular season record at 11-10. This year marks the first winning season since 2010-2011 for the men’s tennis team.

“This was a great way to finish the season,” said Head Coach Steve Mauro. “I am really happy with the way we played the second half of the season and am looking forward to the upcoming conference tournament.”

The tournament Mauro is referring to is the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship from April 18th to the 20th.   Temple is slotted to play #3 ranked Louisville in the first round on Friday, April 18th.
