New Essential Needs Hub

The Christopher and Julie Barnett Essential Needs Hub is a new resource designed to support student success by bringing multiple services together under one roof.

Essential Needs Program Coordinator Zoey Bunbury explains that multiple of the Hub’s resources are already available and being used by students.

“We have community benefits, navigation, some off-campus living support, and then also we have like this classroom space where a lot of events have already been held,” said Bunbury.

Bunbury says while the Hub is already open, even more resources are set to come to campus next semester.

“We’re in phase one. Then come the beginning of the fall semester, it will be like a grand opening of the Hub,” said Bunbury.

This grand opening will include new resources like nap pods, a sensory space, and a Cherry Pantry three times its current size.

Office Assistant Saniya Hayden shared that these expansions are critical and that they will make a true difference for students.

“To see it get bigger, to be able to provide students with the food that they need, and to have that accessibility is so important,” said Hayden.

For sophomore nursing major Keity Mendes, who has used the Cherry Pantry, the growth means more student access.

“I’m excited to see what they’re going to possibly expand on, like what things they’re going to be bringing in; there are things that are really important,” said Mendes. As the Hub continues to grow, students and staff hope it will make essential resources more accessible to every Temple Owl who needs them.
