Once the Science and Technology Center is completed the first project of Visualize Temple will begin: a new library.
Plans for the new library continue. The all-new 200,000 square foot high-tech building will replace Barton Hall in the center of campus. The new library will bring a lot to the Temple Community. Including more resources for students and the ability to have more room to study.
“The proportion of space for book storage, compared to seating space is for people is going to reverse. So the greater proportion of space is going to before people,” said Margaret Carney, Associate Vice President and University Architect.
The new building does not have a name yet, but we know Barton Hall will not be on the University Map in a few years. Demolition to the hall will begin summer of 2015. Students will return fall of 2015 and see Barton Hall almost to the ground. Portions of Liacouras Walk will be under construction but that and Pollett walk is all part of the Landscaping Master Plan. The Bell Tower will also undergo several changes, one of which will introduce a new green quad for students.
“…Liacouras Walk and Pollet Walk are the internal pedestrian routes, [and will], of course, be renewed,” said Carney.
Inside of the new library, books will be stored away and the only way to receive a book is by a computer and a “robot.” On the outside, you can expect a green quad for students to relax in the warm sun. The new project is set to be completed fall of 2018.
