It was an absolute monumental weekend for the men’s and women’s track & field team. On Saturday the Owls hosted the Temple Alumni Invitational on their home track.
Something they have not in decades.
Not only was it the last home meet ever for the team, but also the Owls senior day, the alumni invitational, and the first time since the 1970s that Temple hosted a home meet. Head Coach Eric Mobley couldn’t emphasize enough how much the meet meant to him and his team.
While the team may not have experience with hosting meets, they have spent countless hours on their home track. In fact, almost every Temple competitor set personal records in their events.
Former Atlantic-10 triple jump champion Gabe Pickett, is extremely proud of the way his team has performed. Especially since it will be their last year competing in Temple uniform due to the recent sports cuts.
“I think it definitely made us hungrier, you know, it unified us and how we support each other, watching each others events, and giving criticism here and there, making sure to push each other and getting each other better everyday,” said Pickett.
Pickett was one of 5 seniors from the men’s team honored on Saturday. Temple track alumni, new and old, competed fun races like the alumni mile. Even Coach Mobley got a piece of the action anchoring a relay team.
Not only will members of the team be competing in the Penn Relays this weekend, but the American Conference Championship is right around the corner.
