After several games coming down to the final minutes of play, the Owls showed how tired they were of coming up short in these close games. Temple defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 10-4 on Senior Day. The seniors especially went out with one intention, win. Head Coach, Bonnie Rosen, was more than pleased with her seniors’ performance, “For that group to get on the field and help us get this game in the books, along with the rest of the team joining in, is just a wonderful story.”
One senior that led the pace of the game was Brenda McDermott. Although this is not something new, McDermott has been the leader on the team throughout the season. It seems that good things come in threes, she tallied up another hat trick for the season, her second consecutive game scoring a hat trick. McDermott also picked up three assists.
A number of Owls were able to contribute to the score board. Avery Longstaff, Kirstie Connor, Rachel Schwaab, Nicole Tiernan, and Megan Pinkerton each added on one goal. Carly Demato also scored two goals.
Although the Owls went into the half with a comfortable 5-1 lead, the Bearcats clawed their way back into the game in the second half. Halfway through the second, Temple was only leading 6-4. The Owls were able to close the game out strong with a 4-0 run to make the final 10-4. Rosen acknowledges the frustration from not being able to close out close games, “…Today we just said ‘no, we get this done right now.’ We talked all week about focusing on the little things and the things you can control, and I was really happy with how people responded and came up with the small things…it allowed us to finish the game strong.”
Temple is now 3-3 in Big East Play and 11-5 overall. They are set to take on Georgetown Saturday April 30th
