The Owls hosted city rival La Salle this afternoon at 1:00pm in the 2nd of 6 straight home games. Temple looked to redeem themselves after Friday’s match with No. 18 Penn State, where the Nittany Lions dominated the Owls in an 8-1 win.
With 7 minutes left in the first half the score remained 0-0, with Temple outshooting La Salle 8-2. With 6:34 on the clock senior Abbey Lawrence scored the first goal of the game for the Explorers during an offensive corner. One minute later with 5:34 left in the first half, Junior Kendall Kreider added another point to the scoreboard for La Salle.
In the second half of the game, Senior Katie Foran scored the first goal of the game for Temple, assisted by 2nd year player Jessika Daniels on the Owls’ 8th offensive corner. Set on tying the game with 21:34 left in the second half, Rachael Mueller scores her first goal of the season, setting the score 2-2.
Freshman Becky Gerhart and Senior Ali Meszaros both had big defensive saves that kept the score stable at a tie.
Coming in clutch, Foran scored her second goal of the game with an assist by Hattie Kuhns, setting the Owls in the lead 3-2 with 8:18 to go. Controlling the last 8 minutes of the game, the Owls were able to bring home their first win of the season.
The Owls’ record is now 1-3 with hopes of gaining another win against Delaware this Friday, September 9 at 4:00pm at Temple’s new Howarth Field.
