Temple’s last three of four games have been extremely too close for comfort, and the Owl’s seem to find themselves on the short end of the stick every time. After a 9-10 loss to Florida, followed by an 8-9 loss in Overtime to UConn, and now a 10-12 loss to Marquette. Head Coach Bonnie Rosen acknowledges that they have not been able to finish these tight games lately, “We’re still learning how to finish a season strong, but we need to remember you do that one game at a time and one play at a time.”
Marquette started the game similar to how they ended the game, strong. The Golden Eagles went on a 3-0 run to kick off the tempo for the game, but Temple was not worried about that. They bounced back with three goals of their own in addition to closing the first half 7-4.
After dominating the first half, the Owls were then unable to capitalize offensively. In the second half alone they turned the ball over thirteen times, nearly double Marquette’s turnovers [seven]. Marquette just went off in the second half, they scored a total of eight goals, in addition to another 3-0 run once again to start the half, “…We gave Marquette too many options to get on a run,” explain Rosen.
Despite another tough loss, Owls everywhere were contributing to the scoreboard. Nicole Tiernan picked up a hat trick in addition to Morgan Glassford and Rachel Swaab each knocking in two goals, and then Avery Longstaff, Brenda McDermott, and Carly Demato each added one goal. Once again, it just did not add up to a victory.
Temple is set to face off Big 5 rival, Villanova, April 20th. The Owl’s Big East record is now 1-3, and the Owls are now 9-5 overall.
