After the final round of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate at the 6,765-yard par 70 Kingsmill Resort-River Course in Williamsburg, Virginia, Temple men’s golf placed 16th out of 24 teams.
As a team, the Owls carded a final round total of 302, which resulted in a 22-over-par score for the day. The round was 11-shots worse than Tuesday’s second round. The top four scores on the team were counted for the final round of the tournament.
Senior Brandon Matthews continued to lead the Owls by placing in a tie for 34th with a final round of 4-over-par 74. Matthews had a three-day total of 10-over-par 220.
Freshman Gary McCabe shot a final round of 73, which moved him up 18 spots into a tie for 64th after a three-day total of 226.
Freshman Trey Wren and redshirt freshman John Barone shot final rounds of 79 and 78, respectively. Barone finished in a tie for 76th with a three-day total of 228 while Wren finished in a tie for 82nd with a three-day total of 229.
Freshman Sam Soeth rounded out the effort for the Owls with a final round of 77. His three-day total of 234 put him in a tie for 104th.
Penn State won the team tournament after carding a team total of 5-over-par 845 during the three-day tournament. Texas Christian senior Paul Barjon claimed individual honors after firing a final round 66 to finish the tournament at 7-under-par.
The Owls will continue their season on Friday March 25th at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, South Carolina.
