Owls Secure First ECAC Victory of the Season in Pink Meet

On Sunday afternoon, Temple women’s gymnastics defeats ECAC, and cross-town rival Penn in a very close 193.675 to 193.325 contest to improve to 5-4 on the season. Today’s win marks the first conference win of the season and Temple improves its all-time record vs Penn to 57-44.

Sunday’s meet was the 101st in the rivalry’s history and a rematch of last year’s ECAC Championships. Temple won the title, with 194.750 points. The Quakers took third with 193.925.

Sophomore all-around Ariana Castrence scored an all-around of 39.150, the highest on each team. The two time ECAC gymnast of the week shined on the vault and in the floor routine with a 9.850 and 9.825, respectively.  The reigning ECAC gymnast of the week, Delaney Garin posted the highest score on the balance beam with a 9.875. And the Senior Jazmyn Estrella had the highest score of the day for any event, with a dazzling 9.9 on the uneven bars.

The highest score for all four events were held by Owls in Sunday’s meet, the team’s highest score of the day was on the uneven bars, which also happens to be the season high for the team with a total of 48.55. Today’s win also marks the first road win of the season for the Owls, this is a good sign for the team, who are a perfect 4-0 at home.

The Owls look to continue their momentum in Ohio as they travel to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons and Illinois State Redbirds in the battle of the birds next Saturday at 2pm.
