Owls Snap Five-Game Losing Streak With Overtime Win

The Owls traveled to New Haven, Connecticut Sunday afternoon to play the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Breaking their five-game losing streak, Temple brought home their second win of the season with a score of 3-2 after going into overtime.

8 minutes into the match, the first goal was scored by Sacred Heart’s Rebecca Hauser on an offensive corner. The Owls earned a corner in the last 60 seconds of the first half, but the Pioneers blocked the ball from entering the goal. The score remained 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.

Throughout the second half of the game, Temple led in offensive corners 7-3, two of which resulted in goals for Temple. Senior Katie Foran scored the Owls’ first goal 14 minutes into the second half, tying the game 1-1. Assisted by Sarah Keer, Junior Rachael Mueller raised the score 2-1 just 7 minutes later off of another one of the Owls’ corners.

3 minutes away from a predicted Temple victory, Christina Gotthold scored for Sacred Heart, tying the game once again 2-2. With neither team breaking through throughout the rest of the half, the game went into overtime.

14 minutes into the overtime extension, Rachael Mueller scores her second goal of the game, ultimately winning the game for the Owls 3-2.

The Owls look ahead to this Friday, September 30th where they’ll host Georgetown in a Big East conference game at 6pm on Howarth Field.
