If the first three weeks of Alex Cagle’s 2015 season were any indication of his potential, the upside certainly looks high. Cagle hit the ground running last year to start his sophomore season. He was named the AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for the first three weeks of the 2015 season, allowing only two goals in that timespan.
Following a terrific 2015 season, Redshirt Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Cagle looks to lead the Owls to the postseason in 2016. Cagle started 18 of 19 games in 2015, logging a 1.18 goals against average along with five shutouts. Cagle was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week three weeks consecutively.
As well as an outstanding goalkeeper, Cagle was named to Temple’s President’s Honor Roll for posting a grade point average of at least 3.5.
A Brookville Wisconsin native, Cagle attended Brookville East High School. He posted a 0.366 goals against average in 2011, while leading Brookside East to the WIAA state tournament. Cagle is an environmental science major in the College of Science and Technology.
Cagle redshirted his freshman year of 2013, while being named to the Temple Director’s Honor Roll. He started two games in 2014 and collected two saves. He was named to the Temple Director’s for the second year in a row.
Cagle has a career goals against average of 1.14, and a career saver percentage of 0.72. All five of his career shutouts came in 2015. On his home turf at the Ambler Campus, Cagle was even more impressive, allowing a total of only seven goals all year at home.
Cagle posted his career high for saves in a game of 7, in games against Villanova, and Columbia, both in the 2015 campaign. His youth showed as the postseason rolled away. Cagle gave of a career high four goals against the University of Connecticut in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Tournament.
Alex Cagle will look to lead the Owls to the postseason in his Junior season. If he continues his stellar play following the 2015 season, the Owls will look to have a successful 2016 season.
