A city-wide town hall was held at the George Washington Carver High School of Science and Engineering by the local Temple community to discuss the plans for a new Temple stadium.
During the meeting on October 30th, a local activist group Stadium Stompers informed attendees that plans for an on-campus Temple Football Stadium have effectively been halted. Temple will now have to renegotiate with Lincoln Financial Field for another season’s lease of their field.
The group also addressed gentrification within the Point Breeze area of the city. Property prices around the local community have been increasing as affordable housing is decreasing and losing its value.
This news coincides with the movement to place a moratorium or hold on “Sheriff’s Sales”.
“Sheriff’s Sales” occur when a homeowner becomes unable to pay their mortgage or becomes delinquent of various local taxes. The property is then taken over and sold at a public auction.
Organizers of the event also included the National Action Network, Black Clergy, POWER, and many other organizations, including Temple faculty and students.
