Talking Taney Baseball with Prof. Bryant Simon

The Taney Dragons, the little league baseball team based in Center City, has received attention from all over the world.

Over the past couple weeks, pitcher Mo’ne Davis led the team of 12 and 13 year olds on an exhilarating run in the Little League Baseball World Series. Like many big stories to come out of Philadelphia, Temple University always seems to have some ties. This story is no exception.

History professor Bryant Simon’s son, Eli, was an active member of the team’s historic run. On Wednesday, mayor Michael Nutter held a parade for the 5th place Dragons and held a ceremony at FDR Park following the event. While Professor Simon still had work to do with his teaching position, it did not stop him from enjoying every minute of the indescribable experience, even if it meant making a trip to Europe and coming back hours before some of the Dragon’s biggest games.

Taney may be a little league team, but to the city of brotherly love, there is nothing little about the 12 players that united a million people.
