Tedx Philadelphia will visit Temple’s campus Friday, March 28th at the Temple Performing Arts Center. Per the organization’s website, the daylong self-improvement conference will focus on “championing great ideas, bringing together engaging speakers, performers, participants and exhibitors to examine the 2014 conference theme “The New Workshop of the World.” TEDx is a part of the larger inspirational force, TED Talks, which has gone viral online as sources of personal and professional inspiration. As stated on the website, the TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations, and individuals to spark conversation and build a connection through local TED-like experiences. TEDx events, screenings of TED Talks videos — or a combination both — sparks deep conversation and connections on a local level. Distinguished for his experience as a consultant and writer, Chris Rabb is also a professor at The Fox School of Business. Author of “Invisible Capital: How Unseen Forces Shape Entrepreneurial Opportunity,” Professor Chris Rabb will share his take on entrepreneurship at the event and will analyze it on a more social level, “Essentially ‘invisible capital’ represents all the things that influence business success, when hard work, a great idea, and a good attitude are just not enough.” Chris Rabb also shared some advice for graduating students, “I don’t think it’s wise to graduate college and go right into [starting] a business” Instead, he suggests, graduates join the work force, and expand their skills and knowledge that can be applied to a future business. To learn more, tune in at 2:30 pm to check out Professor Rabb’s TEDx talk. Simran Sidhu, the Executive Director at YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School and a Temple alumna, shares her experience working with YouthBuild, an alternative school with a focus on community service and leadership development. Simran Sidhu will also be presenting at the conference, “I am going to be talking about the potential of what we’re calling “opportunity youth” these days… I think if you stop listening to your students and being responsive to them, it’s the death of schools like ours.” Though the event is sold out, the full event will be available for live viewing cost-free at the following locations: Fox School of Business/Temple Toastmasters 1801 Liacouras Walk, Philadelphia, PA 19122 Reserve your tickets!
