Temple Pushes Back Start of Spring 2021 Semester, Cancels Spring Break

THE UNIVERSITY HAS DELAYED THE START OF THE SPRING SEMESTER TO JANUARY 19.

Temple University is delaying start of the Spring 2021 semester to January 19 and will cancel spring break.

The university announced Monday that the semester will start eight days later than planned, to give students returning from winter break at least two full weeks from New Year’s Day to self-quarantine before classes start.

Provost JoAnne Epps says the decision comes after last year’s spring break brought an increase in coronavirus cases.

“Last year’s experience taught us that travel during spring break led to multiple positive cases among students, both nationwide and abroad,” said Epps in the university’s announcement.

Spring break was scheduled for March 1 through 7.

There has been no formal announcement on whether the university will hold non-essential in-person classes in the spring semester.

Additional information regarding COVID-19 testing plans, the spring course schedule, on-campus housing and other campus details, will be coming in a series of announcements starting in the next several days, according to the announcement.

Temple Update will have the latest information about Spring 2021 classes as it becomes available.
