Temple’s president, John Fry, has responded to the recent executive orders made by President Donald Trump.
Fry sent an announcement to the Temple community saying the administration has a team tracking “potential developments” of the Trump administration and their impacts on the University.
In response to the threat of a federal funds freeze Fry said that even with the reported rescission of Trump’s order, the Office of the Vice President for Research will continue to follow the possible freeze and its implications.
In response to recent rumors of ICE agents around campus, Fry said, “Neither Temple’s Department of Public Safety nor the Philadelphia Police Department have any reports of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents being on campus.” He also assured the community, “All law enforcement actions on campus, however, would need to comply with typical processes, including a warrant or court order when appropriate.”
Fry said that Temple would work to stay true to its mission. “While circumstances will continue to evolve over the coming weeks and months, one thing that will remain the same is Temple’s mission of access, opportunity, engagement, and discovery,” Fry wrote. “Since our founding in 1884, Temple has focused on providing educational and experiential opportunities to individuals from every walk of life. That mission will not change.”
