Temple Women’s Basketball Falls To Harvard

Despite the efforts of Junior Tanaya Atkinson recording her third straight double-double, Temple fell to the Harvard Crimson Thursday night 73-62.

Temple shot just 32% from the field; the Owls were out beaten in all four major statistical category including rebounds, assist, steals, and blocks. Temple also shot a dismal 29% from behind the three-point line.

Temple got off to a hot start as the Owls jumped out to a 11-3 lead early in the first. Harvard responded with a run of their own to close out the quarter by out scoring the Owls 12-2.

Harvard outscored the Owls 17-10 in the 2nd quarter, with Temple shooting 22% and Harvard shooting 55% from the field. Harvard continued their run from the first quarter into the second by going on a 10-3 run to open up a 26-16 lead. Temple responded by scoring 5 straight from Freshman Shantay Taylor. Harvard pushed the lead back to 11 before junior Aaliyah Butts would close out the quarter with a shot to put the score at 32-23.

Temple opened the third quarter up with a 9-2 run to start the third quarter, but a three point play made by Tanaya Atkinson would cap the run, cutting the lead to 36-32. Harvard opened up another big run, this time going on a 15-4 run to open up the largest lead of the game at 49-36. Temple outscored the Crimson 7-2 to close the quarter at 51-43.

After Atkinson opened up the fourth quarter with a bucket to cut the lead to six, but Temple would fail to close the lead. Harvard would open up a 16-4 run to put the game at 69-55. Temple ended the game on a 6-0 run, but the run was too late, and Harvard would defeat the Owls 73-62.

Individually for the Owls, the game was another great performance by Tanaya Atkinson who notched her third straight triple double. Atkinson dropped 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald notched 15 points and 5 assist, while Junior Aaliyah Butts added 15 points to the effort.

The Owls will be back in action Sunday at 2pm at McGonigle against Vermont.
