This week is National Coming Out Week In Philadelphia. With Outfest kicking it off this past Sunday in the Gayborhood, Temple hosted its 10th annual drag show on campus at the Performing Arts Center this past Monday.
The event, hosted by America’s Next Top Model former contestant Cory Wade (Serena Star), featured student participants showing off their outfits and pride.
Cory Wade, a Philadelphia Native, could not hold in the excitement of how grateful and appreciative he was in regards to the turnout, and being able to host it yet another year.
The event hopes to create a positive environment for those of the LGBTQ community and remind them that Temple is a safe zone for members of the community.
The event itself was full of performances by several drag queens, as well as talented dance groups, It also included a lesson on the art of voguing, a style of dancing the came alive with the African American LGBTQIA+ community.
National Coming Out Week’s essential purpose is to try and provide members and allies with resources and activities. Besides this drag show, there will be a handful of other events taking place this week on Temple’s campus; such as a Community Forum, Queer Connect, Come Out Speak Out, NCOW Fest, and the NCOW Gala.
