Trump Administration Reacts to Deadly Aircraft Collision

President Trump commented on Wednesday’s American Airlines jet and Black Hawk helicopter collision.

Officials said that all 64 people aboard the flight and 3 people on the helicopter have died, with 28 bodies being pulled out of the Potomac River as of noon Thursday.

Aboard the flight were world-champion Russian figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.

Trump started his speech saying, “As one nation we grieve for every precious soul that has been taken from us so suddenly and we are a country of really we are in mourning.”

At Trump’s briefing, Trump blamed traffic controllers, helicopter pilots, and Democratic policies as the main causes of the crash.

“The FAA’s diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities,” Trump said. “…They put a big push to put diversity into the FAA’s program.”

His new Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, was also at the briefing. “We will not accept excuses.” Duffy said. “We are going to take responsibility at the Department of Transportation and the FAA to make sure we have the reforms that have been dictated by President Trump in place to make sure that these mistakes do not happen again.”

Trump’s Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, said, “We will have the best and brightest in every position possible… it is colorblind and merit-based.”

Trump also blamed Biden’s administration and “mentally incompetent” air traffic officials for the crash.

The collision is under investigation and no cause has been found.

Trump’s comments on the crash have sparked upset among former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, and Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland.
