BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After losing the first match they played on Friday night, the Owls went into their matches on Saturday looking to rebound against Northern Kentucky (6-2) and LIU Brooklyn (7-3) in the LIU Brooklyn Blackbird Invitational.
Despite valiant efforts to defeat North Kentucky, the Owls were dropped in a four set match for their second defeat of the season. The Owls fought during the first two sets, and were behind 20-15 until a furious 6-2 brought them back in. NKU then went on a 4-1 run to seal the set. During the second set, the Owls fought neck in neck with NKU but the Norse were able to score the final two points and topple the Owls 25-23 to go ahead 2-0 in the match. The third set was easy sailing for the Owls as they took an 18-9 lead and cruised to a 25-14 giving them potential new hope. The fourth set was tight up to the 13 point mark when it was tied, but the Norse pulled away giving the Owls their second defeat of the season.
In their last match of the tournament the Owls played the host Blackbirds. The Blackbirds took the first set 25-17 in a one sided set. Temple stormed back winning the second set 25-23 and the third set 28-26. The Blackbirds composed themselves and calmly came back winning the fourth set 25-21 and the fifth set 15-11, sending the Owls home 0-3 for the weekend.
The Owls have the week off until the Big 5 tournament at the Palestra starting on Friday.
