The Temple Owls women volleyball team kicked off a four game road trip on Friday, traveling to Cincinnati in their second meeting between the two teams of the season. In the first meeting, Temple beat Cincy three sets to one, but the reverse would be true this time around, with Cincinnati winning three sets to one on their own home court.
Despite 45 assists from Sandra Sydlik and 13 kills from Irem Asci, the Owls were outplayed. For Cincinnati, 49 assists from Jade Tingelhoff and 21 kills from Jordan Thompson, led them to win by over 5 points per set won.
Sunday against the Memphis Tigers was better for the Owls. This too was a repeat matchup. Last time these two met in McGonigle hall, the Owls won in a sweep, three sets to none. That wouldn’t be the ultimate outcome this time, but they would win fairly easily, three sets to one.
Tyler Davis led kills with 13, and Kirsten Overton added 12 of her own. Two other players were in double digit kills. No Memphis players reached 10 kills. Sydlik was back in assisting fashion, breaking 50 and assisting 51 times throughout the game.
The Owls have two more games on the road before they return home, and the next one is Friday in Tulane.
