Watch as protesters march north down N. Broad Street into Temple University’s main campus.
The demonstration Sunday evening was peaceful, and was held directly in response to the police murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, one week ago today. This demonstration is just one of many that have happened throughout the city of Philadelphia and surrounding area in support of Floyd.
Other notable events relating to protests near Temple’s campus on Sunday, May 31:
- A TUAlert was issued out of an abundance of caution as Temple University Police observed large groups in the Broad and Girard area causing damage and heading north towards campus.
- Temple Police tells Temple Update that approx. 30 people entered the CVS on 11th and Cecil B. Moore Ave shortly before 10:30 PM last night (5/31) and took property from inside the store. The store is part of the Vantage complex, a student housing facility directly off main campus.
- Protesters peacefully gathered at the Philadelphia Police 22nd District police station at 17th and Montgomery. The protest ended without issue.
- Temple Police has added additional patrols and tells us that the force is continuing to stay vigilant to ensure the safety of Temple’s campuses and the surrounding communities. Temple Police is also coordinating resources and efforts with the Philadelphia Police Department.
