Bark Walk at Ambler Campus

It turns out walking your dog can be a nature admiring activity as well. Temple University’s Ambler campus invited visitors to take a walk with their fluffy friends while learning about different trees at the school’s annual Bark Walk.

Kathleen Salisbury, director of the arboretum, explained that “trees have all different kinds of colors and shapes and textures of bark and we want to highlight that because it becomes really evident and really beautiful during the winter.”

Mary Meholic, one of the visitors, shared her experience: “It was a lot of fun. Very educational. I got to learn how to ID some trees I didn’t recognize before. It’s also really neat to learn what was native and what wasn’t native to the area.”

The arboretum holds events throughout the year but visitors are free to walk around and see the beauty the campus has to offer.
