Jazz Recitals at Presser Hall

MUSIC LOVERS CAN REJOICE IN THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ THAT WILL BE EMINATING THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER FROM THE ART OF BREAD CAFÉ IN PRESSER HALL.

On April 2nd, students from the Boyer College of Music kicked off a string of performances that will highlight several unique styles of music.

Dylan Michael, a senior expressed his delight, “I’m not a music major so nice to just be able to stop in during the class or break between classes or homework and relax for a few minutes and get a coffee.”

The first concert was headed by the Tony Miceli Ensemble, who specialized in creating a type of jazz with the vibraphone, combining a mallet instrument like a xylophone with a fan that causes a vibrato effect.

Tony Miceli, the instructor and leader of this ensemble is an internationally renowned vibraphonist who has performed and taught all over the world. He explained, “The thing about the vibraphone is it has metal bars, and it has a stain pedal, so it offers more in terms of the tone. You know you can let things ring for a long time you can’t do that on the marimba.”

This performance gives the jazz students a chance to show off their abilities and hard work all while giving attendees the opportunity to experience something new.

Dylan Michael said, “Yeah, it’s great. I think it is underrated within the university and the students. Not enough students participate.”

Jileah Denapoli shared her excitement, “It was one of the first ones that I’ve ever been to and I just really liked how everybody got together to kind of watch something like this and I’m really looking forward to going to see the next one.”

Tony Miceli remarked, “I think it’s an opportunity for students to do what they wanna do eventually they want to be in playing in front of people.”

This is the first of many of these events as students can experience a piece of Temple that they may not have known about. Recitals will be held in Boyer Hall Monday through Friday for the next two weeks until April 12th.
