It was just recently announced that Temple University will host the 2023 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championship. It was also confirmed that Camden’s Cooper River will be the site for the Championship, with all three NCAA Divisions competing in the event.
Temple University Athletic Director Fran Dunphy is excited for the opportunity that comes with hosting a NCAA Championship,
“This is a great day for Temple University with our athletics department being selected as the host of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Rowing National Championship,”
“I want to thank the NCAA for awarding Temple this prestigious event as well as PHL Sports Executive Director Larry Needle and his staff for all the hard work put into helping secure these bids.”
This bid made by Temple was one of five successful bids made by Philadelphia to the NCAA. Among those include the 2023 & 2024 Men’s Lacrosse Championships, both of which will be hosted by Drexel University.
Drexel and University of Pennsylvania will also co-host the 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, and finally, in 2026 Saint Josephs University will host the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball 1st/2nd Rounds.
The bidding process to host these events took over 13 months to plan, and required communication between the city of Philadelphia, as well as multiple universities, and venues, in order to properly organize the events. Each group played a crucial role in securing these bids.
Though these events are a few years away, students and fans should mark their calendars for these events, it’s not every day that your city gets to host this many championship events.
