Surveillance cameras are scattered throughout Temple’s Campus.
They cannot be adjusted or moved, and they can only provide basic still images of a scene, and often grainy ones at that.
The National Science Foundation is introducing another option. The NSF is offering Temple’s department of Computer Information and Sciences a grant to develop videos like this, the prototype for new 3D surveillance cameras.
These cameras are still in the developmental stage, but the department hopes to have a prototype within a year.
Temple Police hope the cameras will help catch criminals more efficiently. Last week’s shooting on Park Ave. was reportedly caught on the conventional cameras currently in place.
