New Bell Unveiled on Campus

Students around campus heard a new sound this morning.

Temple University has installed a vintage bell on campus. The bell was revealed and chimed on Tuesday morning.

This isn’t the first time students have heard a bell chime at the university. The Bell Tower, located on the center of campus, was installed in 1965.

For President Neil Theobald, the bell has a special meaning. It’s a tribute to his family, and will ring in honor of his late parents. The self-titled “Theobald Nagging Bell” will not only serve as a dedication to his parents, but will also act as a constant reminder for students to get to class on time.

Temple Update’s Cassandra Semyon spoke with President Theobald about what the bell means to him. Hear what he had to say in the video above.

The bell is located on top of Shusterman Hall. It will be illuminated at night, and will chime every 15 minutes.
