Temple University has announced a new department dedicated solely to the academic success of international undergraduate students. The move comes in light of the growing number of international students at the university.
The Department of International Student Affairs will be in the Division of Student Affairs. The programs that will run through the new department have been previously carried out in the Office of International Affairs (OIA).
The university is home to 1,700 international students, traveling from China, France, Korea, Nigeria and more.
Brooke Walker will be appointed to oversee the newly created department on February 1, she will be the Vice Dean of International Students. Walker had previously been the Assistant Vice President for Global Partnerships and Programs with the OIA. Martyn Miller will be appointed Interim Assistant Vice President for International Programs in the OIA while the search for a permanent Assistant Vice President is underway.
Jie Wu, chair of the Computer and Information Science Department has been appointed Associate Vice Provost for International Affairs. Wu will assist Provost Dai in managing the globalization effort of Temple University. Despite his new role, Wu will continue his responsibilities as the Department Chair. Three assistant vice provosts for International Affairs with regional focuses will be selected from the university’s faculty ranks.
