#NextMayorPHL: A Look at Owl Voters

Last week, Temple’s Center for the Performing Arts hosted a mayoral debate between candidates Melissa Murray Bailey (R) and Jim Kenney (D), but only a small number of students were in attendance of the event.

Some students told Temple Update they feel they are not educated enough about the candidates to vote, and that there are actions that can be taken to correct this.

Students suggested ways Temple University could promote voting in local elections, such as clubs and emails. “We get tons of emails from Temple, maybe promote information sessions; make it so the student wants to know more about it,” said Mike Chernow.

Student Katie Tran said she will be voting in the mayoral election, but doesn’t have much information on the candidates. “I’m going to do more research once the time gets closer.”

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
