A building on the 2300 block of North Broad street between Dauphin and York streets was evacuated Tuesday morning after a contractor struck a gas line.
Police and firefighters responded at approximately 10:30am to divert traffic and pedestrians from the area. North Broad street was closed from Cumberland street to Susquehanna street for nearly two hours as crews worked to shut off the gas line.
SEPTA temporarily suspended Broad Street Line service between Girard and Erie stations. Service was restored around 12:30pm.
No injuries or large property damage has been reported. Firefighters were attempting to enter a building that appears to be a NovaCare rehabilitation office.
