Owl’s Keep Playoff Hopes Alive By The Slimmest of Margins

Philadelphia, Pa – 110 minutes of double overtime play saw no official winner with the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (7-4-4) and Temple Owls (9-5-2) ending with a tied score of 1-1. A win is what the Owls wanted but a loss is something their conference playoff hopes wouldn’t have been able to digest.

Through about 80 minutes of play the Owls saw their playoff hopes slipping away slowly but surely. After a Goal by Tulsa’s Kay Duit, in the sixth minute of play with a assist from Munashe Raraje, Temple played from behind the rest of the way. The Owls out-shot the Hurricanes 8-1 in the first half but could’t find the goal.

Temple’s own Jordan Wix Rauch responded with his first goal of the season and the biggest goal of the game in the 87th minute. He fired his kick into the left corner of the net and tied the game right before time the end of regulation.

Two overtime periods passed and Temple’s defense stood strong with Alex Cagle recording two saves in the periods. With the draw the Owls now have a 1-2-2 conference record and will need to win their final two conference games of the season a loss from Tulsa loses to gain a spot in the conference tournament.

The UCF Knights will play the Owls at the Temple Sports Complex next Saturday for their final home game of the season at 7p.m. Also seven seniors will be honored as at the Owls’ Senior Night.
