Owls Shut Out Nittany Lions 3-0

Owl Shutout the Nittany Lions

 

Temple men’s soccer won big against Penn State Wednesday night giving the Owls their 3rd win of the season and sending the Nittany Lions back to State College with their 5th loss of the season. This win brings the Owls to 3-5-1 on the season, and the lose puts Penn State at 2-5-2.

 

The freshman on Temple’s squad led the way for the team with Thibault Candia scoring 2 goals and Alan Soto Camacho scoring 1. The first goal came early in the game when Junior Herman Doerner passed to Freshman Soto Camacho, and Soto Comacho was able to shoot the ball in the bottom corner of the net. In the 15th minute, Candia was able to launch the ball into the upper corner of Penn State’s goal and get the 2nd goal of the game for the Owls. The Owls had many scoring opportunities in the first half, however, the Nittany Lions were able to defend those plays. The third goal of the game came in the second half on a one v. one, and Candia was able to juke the Penn State defender out to score his 2nd goal of the game and the third for the Owls.

The backup goalie for the Owls, Sophomore Michael Samnik, was also able to record his first shutout of the season.

The Owls outshot the Nittany Lions 7-3 in the first half, but at the end of the game, Penn State outshot Temple 16-12. Temple was able to record 6 shots on goal compared to Penn States 3 shots on goal. Both goalies 3 saves a piece, however, Michael Samnik was able to record a shutout in only his second start of the season.

The Owls will continue conference play at Memphis this Saturday at 8 PM.
