Penn’s Landing Kicks off Winterfest

“I was here over the summer and it just looks so different, which is very cool to see how it transforms from season to season,” said Philadelphia resident Katie.

Penn’s Landing traded their river rink for an ice rink to welcome the winter season.

Winterfest is an annual tradition for the Blue Cross River Rink, kicking off the first week of December.

The festivities hold a lodge and fire pits where Winterfest goers can warm up after a round on the rink, they have a Franklin Fountain food truck there, and other food provided by the Garces Group, who also works the stands at Spruce Street Harbor Park throughout the warmer months. A full list of the food and drink options can be found here.

Admission to the ice rink is $3, while skate rentals start at $10. Any Independence Blue Cross insurance card holders get into the rink for free.

Public skating sessions start at 1pm until close. From December 19 to January 3, Winterfest hours will be extended to 11-1 a.m. Tickets should be purchased in advance as some skating sessions have started to sell out.
