Philadelphia Cherry Blossoms Festival 2025

Now that it is finally April, the Japan America Society held its annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Fairmount Park this past weekend.

Festivities included traditional songs and dances performed by multiple dance groups and musicians throughout the day.

Temple University’s Karate Club held a bake sale and showcased their skills in the ancient art of Kata at the festival.

Vice President of the club Frederica O’Donnell is glad that they are teaching people at the event.

“We’re all really passionate about what we do, we all put a lot of our free time into it. And so to see other people kinda like learning about Shotokan Karate and what it means to us, it just makes it feel like it’s all worth it.”

Temple Campus Japan was also at the event promoting their satellite campus to those interested.

Dean of Temple Campus Japan Matt Wilson explains what the event means to both TUJ and the Philadelphian community.

“When we talk about the Cherry Blossom Festival, I mean really it is educating the community about the Japanese culture. It’s such a wonderful thing to see the smiling faces, to see the people embracing the food, the fun, and learning more about Temple University.”

The festival will come back next year at the end of March 2026.
