City Hall Lights Up for the Holidays

Crowds gathered outside of the North Broad entrance to City Hall Wednesday night to watch the annual City Hall tree lighting.

Though the rainy weather scared some away, the tree lighting went off as planned, with celebrity guests and even an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The ceremony this year was accompanied by a Ferris wheel and live performances by local Philadelphia musicians.

This year’s tree is topped with a massive Liberty Bell to celebrate the city’s history, as well as festive giant ornaments and a base celebrating the neighborhoods of Philadelphia.

The tree will stay lit throughout the holiday season, and will be accompanied by Christmas Village’s annual decorations and attractions.
