Phillies’ Home Opener: What’s New In the Ballpark?

The Phillies Home Opener first pitch is set for Friday, March 29th at 3:05 PM. If you’re planning on heading to the game, there’s a few new changes to check out at the Ballpark.

Not only is Opening Day celebrating the start of the Phillies’ season, it’s also celebrating a special occasion. This year marks 20 years at Citizen Bank Park.

Ashburn Alley Mural

In honor of two decades at the Ballpark and to honor the creation of futures through community, the Phillies and their partner, SEI, held a mural competition. Artist Jose Bustamante won and now has his work displayed above Ashburn Alley.

“The inspiration was building great futures, and I was trying to portray two kids that represent the future in different like the style clothing from different eras,” said Bustamante.

No More Dollar Dogs

The mural isn’t the only change happening to the park. This year, the Phillies are getting rid of their Dollar Dog Night special.

After fans started food fights during last years games, the Phillies announced that Dollar Dog Nights would be replaced with 2-for-1 deals during two games in April: April 2nd and April 16th.

Schwarburger 2.0

Dollar Dog Night might be rolling out, but the Schwarburger is rolling right back in.

One of the many new foods being added to the menu at Citizen Bank Park is the Scwarburger 2.0 at Coca-Cola Corner. This year, they’re bringing back a Kyle Schwarber post-season special, but with a twist.

“We actually worked with his group and with Kyle himself and this is his burger, the one that he likes, the one that he routinely orders when he can… This is Kyles creation that the Chef put together for us,” said Aramark General Manager Kevin Tedesco.

Go Ahead Entry

There’s one change that you’ll see before you even step into the Ballpark. Citizen’s Bank Park is expanding their facial authorization ticketing option to speed up lines getting into the game.

Sean Walker, Phillies Vice President and Chief Technology Officer said, “We launched Go Ahead Entry… that allows fans to use their face as their tickets, so last season that was available only at our first base gate, this year were happy to announce that it will be available at all gates.”
